How to create a Calculated metric

Before you start

Calculated metrics are formulas built from existing Custom metrics and/or Calculated metrics using operators (for example: Spend / Clicks, Clicks / Impressions * 100).

Recommendation:

  • Use custom metrics for totals (Clicks, Impressions, Spend, Conversions)
  • Use calculated metrics for ratios/averages (CTR, CPC, CPM, CPA, Conversion Rate)

Create a new Calculated metric

  1. Go to Metrics
  2. Click Create new (top right)

Step 1: Select metric type

  1. Select Calculated metrics
  2. Click Next

Step 2: Select owner (Account or Brand)

  • Account = available to all Brands in your main account
  • Brand = available only for the selected Brand

Click Next.

Step 3: Select the metrics (inputs)

Two lists are available so you can pick what you want to use in the formula:

  • Custom metrics
  • Calculated metrics

Open each list, select the metrics you want to include, then click Next.

Step 4: Build the calculation

Create your formula using:

  • Selected metrics
  • Operators: +, -, /, *, (, )
  • Numbers (enter a value and click Add)

Click Next.

Step 5: Configure metric information

This step follows the same structure as Custom metrics, with one exception: currency exchange.

  1. Metric name
  2. External name (optional)
  3. Suffix (optional) (Percentage / Currency / none)

If suffix = Currency:

  • You can use Ad account (suffix) or Static (suffix)
  • Exchange (calculation) is not available for calculated metrics (it’s custom metrics only)

Then set:

  • Metric goal (required)
  • Comparison value (optional)
  • Comparison value in colors (optional)
  • Round metric (optional)

Click Submit.

Can I use calculated metrics inside other calculated metrics?

Yes. You can use calculated metrics inside other calculated metrics to create reusable “sub-metrics”. This is helpful when different parts of your setup require different calculations, but you still want one final KPI that combines them.

Typical use:

  • Create one calculated metric per rule/logic
  • Combine those calculated metrics into one final calculated metric
